A Healthy Serving of Beans
When It Comes To Your Data, We Prefer Dull And Boring
Bean There, Done That
Monthly Bookkeeping Wisdom From Your Friendly Bean-Counter
Do you know what’s super exciting this time of year?
No, I’m not referring to the rough-and-tumble world of bean counting and tax preparation, exciting as those things are for your Friendly Bean Counter (FBC).
In this case, I’m talking about the thrill-a-minute excitement of having your private or business information compromised, your identity stolen, and your life pretty-much wrecked by a data breach.
And this time of year, with all the information flying around throughout cyberspace and even the U.S. mail, it’s a perfect season for information theft. The bad guys are looking for every data breach they can find, and wow, talk about exciting!
Exciting, yes. But a data breach does not bring the “good” kind of excitement, like the kind you get from a roller coaster, or a suspenseful movie, or a particularly delicious baked good.
No, a data breach brings the kind of bad excitement you get from, say, a nightmare. And in fact, a nightmare is exactly what you get – multiple nightmares, really – when your data is compromised.
That’s why your FBC and her capable staff work diligently, and employ cutting-edge tools of the trade, to keep your data as secure and private as possible. Even this time of year, during Data Breach Hunting Season.
You and your FBC need to be in close communication this time of year, and we need to pass information back and forth. But here at DK/RK Services, we have the tools and know-how to make sure that our communication with our clients is kept as secure as possible, at all times.
Why? Because if we can’t deliver particularly delicious baked goods to our clients, we can at least give them the kind of dull and boring tax season that brings sweet dreams and restful sleep, as you slumber in care-free confidence that you won’t get that other kind of excitement.
We’re all for excitement, and we’re certainly all for particularly delicious baked goods. But when it comes to data confidentiality, we’ll take dull and boring every day.

Never Bully Your Fur Buddy
This might come as a surprise to you two-leggers, but we dogs are not actually born housebroken.
That should NOT surprise you, since your human babies don’t come into the world fully potty-trained, either. But it sometimes amazes me that some dogs end up with people who think dogs should automatically know where to do their business, so to speak.
Yelling, brute force, and other forms of bullying will not hasten our ability to understand what you want in this regard, by the way. In fact, if you bully your buddy, he may never really fully grasp the concept.
What works is patience, and timing. Feed and water us at the same times each day, and then walk us or put us outside when our bodies are ready to finish their processing. If we make a mistake, don’t holler, just clean it up and try to do better with your timing next time.
Use patience and timing, and usually it only takes about a week for us to learn that outside is the perfect place to do what we need to do.
By the way, we can’t read your newspapers. By this, I mean that putting newspaper down on the floor inside the house might only lead us to the conclusion that you want us to go there, whether you remember to put the paper down or not!
Don’t worry, we understand. Nobody gets it right the first time. But hang in there, keep trying, and you can eventually get us to understand what you want.
Woof!

Non-Profit Spotlight
Help Protect Animals –The Easy Way
The Katie Adamson Conservation Fund is one of our favorite non-profit organizations here at DK/RK Services. It’s an amazing group of dedicated folks whose mission is to help endangered animals by helping the people who protect them.
You can learn more about KACF, and even make a donation, here:
https://www.katieadamsonconservationfund.org/
… But there are other ways you can support this fine organization, even without making a donation.
You can get their super-cool “Zoodiac” kids’ book for the little people in your life. Start ‘em off on the right foot, learning about the importance of protecting the planet’s critters! For instance, young Zoodiac readers will learn that, if they were born in February, the “animal of the month” that needs their protection is the mighty jaguar!
Also, when you buy online at smile.amazon.com, KACF gets a donation. And everybody buys groceries, right? Shop at King Soopers or City Market, and designate KACF to receive a percentage every time you shop – simply go to “community rewards” on your Sooper Card account, and enter code “CU455.”
We hope you’ll join us in supporting this extremely worthy organization, and its crucial mission in the life of our planet.
Thank you!
