The Importance of Establishing a Proper Budget

Bean There, Done That
Monthly Bookkeeping Wisdom From Your Friendly Bean-Counter

In the history of the world, nothing truly great has ever been accomplished without first establishing a proper budget.

Ha ha! Just kidding.

But really, if you’re in business, planning ahead and creating a sound budget just make good business sense.
Now’s the perfect time to sit down with your Friendly Bean Counter (FBC) (that’s me) and look at your company’s budget for 2022.

Let’s make next year the most prosperous and successful year in the history of the world! Or, at least, in the history of your company.

Reach out to your FBC, and set a time to talk about your firm’s budget for the future!

  • The most successful businesses are forward-looking. They anticipate both opportunities and threats, and they have a plan in place for dealing with those things. It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day, and forget to think about what things will look like 12, 24, or 60 months down the road.
  • It’s a wonderful idea to create at least an outline of how you’ll allocate resources in 2022. When unexpected things pop up – and they do! – it’s great to have a plan from which you can make variations as they’re necessary.
  • How will you manage cash flow in the new year? Is there a seasonality to your business – leaner months and more prosperous months – that you can plan ahead for?
  • There are many other things your FBC can help you anticipate and budget for, such as capital expenditures, periodic reporting, expansion, and modifications of your product or service lines.
  • Finally, how will you assess the performance of your company? The answers you’ll be looking for are often in your business’s numbers, and your FBC is very good with numbers!

The time is now, late in 2021, to think about how 2022 will look – and how you can budget for the things that are likely to come up. This will help you deal with the things that aren’t likely to come up, but darn it, they insist on coming up anyway!

The future can be somewhat tricky in business, since nobody really knows what it holds. But the key to minimizing stress and maximizing profits in the unknown future is planning ahead, and having a solid budget to work from.

And even though “the future” is scheduled for later, you can schedule a budget planning session with your FBC today!

  1. 1
What’s the greatest thing that’s ever happened in the history of the world?
  2. 2
Name three things the U.S. federal government has accomplished on time and under budget. Ha ha. This, of course, is a trick question
  3. 3
When would you like to meet with your FBC and plan a budget for 2022?

Dogs Get Sick Sometimes, Too

Sadie here, Dottie’s faithful canine companion, with another important tip for all you two-leggers who are lucky enough to live with dogs.

Sure, it’s “cold and flu season” for you humans, and we dogs feel bad for you when you get sick. But speaking of feeling bad, you might not realize that dogs get sick from time to time, too!

If your canine roommate has intestinal or tummy issues, you’ll know it. Sorry for the mess, but we can’t control it when we’re sick, so don’t holler at us!

Instead, it’s a nice idea to have some pet meds on hand for those yucky times of canine tummy upset. Do a little research, and you’ll find there are some great products out there, such as DoggyStat and Pawfy, to help us “stay regular.”

Let’s all stay healthy this winter.

Woof!
